The Lexington Bookie

Book Reviews, Blogging Advice, and Lexington Literary Resources

Welcome to The Lexington Bookie!

About the Blog

The Lexington Bookie is a book review blog and intended Lexington, KY area literary resource.

On this blog, I read (via physical, audio, and e-reader books) whatever sparks my interest, including genres such as contemporary literature, general fiction, mystery thrillers, dystopian, self-help, memoirs, and fantasy. Then I review where I got the book, why it sparked my interest, a short summary (spoiler-free as can be) of the novel, and whether or not I would recommend the book, and if so, who the ideal audience would be.

In addition to reviews, I also discuss blogging, provide local area information (book store locations and contact info, local literary events, etc.), and a variety of additional book and blog-related posts.

About the Blog Origins

I started The Lexington Bookie at the end of 2015, and into 2016, as a fun resolution that combined reading and maintaining a blog. I had started a few personal blogs before without much success or discipline, and determined that a book blog would be perfect to keep me reading and motivated. Soon, it became a full-on thrill to read, review, and write about the bookish things I enjoy.

I enjoy recommending a good book to others. It thrills me to know that there are people out there who care what I have to say about books, or who agree/disagree with my taste in novels and love to discuss their thoughts. Those people inspire and motivate me to read, write, and have fun with this blog.

About the Blogger

My name is Amanda, and I live just outside Lexington, KY. Primarily, I’m an equine professional, which is why I decided to move to the horse capital from my hometown in Vermont. But if you can’t find me in a barn somewhere, I’m usually curled up reading with my two cats, Junior and Millie. My wide taste in reads ranges from non-fiction to fantasy, but I love historical fiction, memoirs, and contemporary literature. My to-be-read pile has grown considerably since I started this blogging escapade, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Seeing the books stacked on my shelves really makes my home feel complete.

I hope you enjoy my selection of reads, and hope you continue to follow me as I delve deeper into the bookish blogger world. Speaking of following, don’t forget to follow me on WordPress and on my social media platforms (Pinterest, Instagram, Goodreads and Twitter) to keep up on my current posts. If you’re already following me, thank you for your support <3.

Happy reading!

  1. Hi Amanda,
I like what you wrote about yourself. I too am a historical fiction and nonfiction fan. You’ll see in my blog a civil war type romance by Lynn Austin as well as a book about General Stonewall Jackson. I especially love the civil war era. I will check out your blog.

      1. Nice! I’ve only driven through the area once, but the mountains are so pretty down there. They reminded me of the ones at home! I actually moved just north of Lex almost 2 years ago now, and it’s a small, quiet town- they’re the best. I love the fun stuff in the city, but I sure don’t miss being in the traffic every day, haha!
